Thomas S. Neslage

Personal and Professional Biography

Tom Neslage was born in Pampa, Texas, on August 13, 1952 into a large family. He earned his Eagle Scout award in 1967 contributing to his family's distinction of having the most Eagle Scouts in a single family in America. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1970 and subsequently graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing and management. Tom earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Tulsa in 1977 and in 1989 completed Columbia University's program for Global Management Development.

Neslage joined Skelly Oil Company in 1974, after working as hourly roustabout labor in Skelly's oil fields throughout college. In 1977, Skelly merged into Getty Oil Company. Tom was named Getty's Regional Petroleum Marketing Coordinator in Tulsa. In 1995, shortly after Getty's merger into Texaco, Neslage was named Regional Marketing Manager for Texaco U.S.A.

In 1989, he relocated to Houston, Texas after being appointed Director of Credit Card and Automated Marketing Systems. In 1990, he was named Director of Quality for Texaco Refining and Marketing Inc.

In 1991, Neslage was appointed General Manager of Texaco A S in Copenhagen, Denmark.In 1994, he became the first Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hydro-Texaco, a joint venture company of Texaco Inc. and Norsk Hydro which is a leading marketer of petroleum products throughout northern and eastern Europe.

In 1996, Neslage returned to Houston to form a new business unit, Texaco Global Products, LLC. Upon formation, Tom was appointed its President and General Manager. This unit had oversight for all research, development, manufacturing and marketing for Texaco branded lubricants and related functions including Texaco Additive International.

In 1999, Neslage was given the additional responsibility of Vice President of Marketing for Texaco Inc. and had coordination responsibility for all Texaco marketing activities worldwide. He was also named by Texaco's Chairman to join the company's Executive Operating Committee. Tom was also appointed to the Board of Directors for FAMM, the global marine fuel and lubricant marketing joint venture company between Texaco and Chevron and served as Chairman of this company in 2000. Tom also served as a board member and/or chairman for most of Texaco's affiliated operating companies in Europe and was Vice President of Texaco Overseas Holdings Inc.

Tom has served on the Board of the Houston Symphony and was the Chairman Elect of the Education Foundation of Harris County, Texas, a non-profit organization, which fosters educational opportunity for under privileged children. He also serves as a member of the Advisory Board for Energy in Education, a petroleum industry sponsored initiative for excellence in math and science education.

In 2000, the National Society of Fund Raising Executives honored Tom as a recipient of it's Outstanding Volunteer Of The Year Award.

In November of 2000, shortly after Texaco acquired a 20% interest in Energy Conversion Devices, Inc., Tom joined ECD as Senior Vice President, with oversight for all sales and marketing activities. In this role, Tom directs ECD's commercialization strategy for emerging energy generation, energy storage and information technologies. Tom is currently focused on assisting ECD and ChevronTexaco create and commercial three joint venture companies in the fields of NIMH battery solutions, fuel cells, and hydrogen storage while also expediting commercialization of it's solar energy solutions.

Tom is married to his childhood sweetheart, Kay White Neslage who is a graduate of Texas Tech University and is a co-founder of 1-800 Flowers. They have three sons. Scott Furr (22) resides in Lubbock, TX and attends Texas Tech University studying Information Technology Management. Stephen Neslage (19) attends Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama and is studying Broadcast Journalism. Scott Neslage (15) attends Casady High School in Oklahoma City, OK., enjoys cross - country running and is nearing completion of his Eagle Scout award.
